This course gives you the opportunity to learn more about the unique heritage of the forest communities in Southeast Alaska. We will explore multiple ways of engaging with the cultural and ecological landscapes and ecosystems, paying close attention to what has stayed the same since past generations have enjoyed the same forests, to what may be different today, and what might the future hold for your children and grandchildren. From forest ecology to the importance of clean water and how Indigenous stewardship can positively shape forest and coastal community health, we'll work to orient ourselves to the land, values, Tlingit /Haida/ Tsimshian place names, oral narratives, and technologies that help us understand where we live more thoroughly.
Teacher office hours are offered weekly (virtually) for tutoring and advising.
Dual credit – high school science elective and UAS credit in Environmental Science. All fees are covered.
Enroll by Feb 1, 2025.
